Three Minute Thesis competition
The Coimbra group is organizing CG 3MT, a “3 minutes thesis” competition in English. Member Universities organize a regional competition to select one candidate for the final competition, which will be held in Bologna in June 2025.
In this context, the Doctoral College LR and the Montpellier University Doctoral College are co-organizing a regional competition to select one candidate for the international competition. Take this opportunity to improve your skills in scientific mediation and in English communication, and prepare yourself for job and post-doc interviews.
Training
To prepare candidates for the regional final, trainings are organized by the both doctoral colleges and provided by professionals :

- Lynn Blin to improve your speaking skills in English
Regional Calendar
January 12, 2025 2025 : Closing of registrations
January 17, 2025 : Pre-selection jury in Montpellier
January 28 and February 4, 13, 18, 25 : Half-day (from 2 to 5.30 PM) training in Montpellier to prepare and adjust your presentations
March 6, 2025 at Jean Monnet high school (Montpellier) : Occitanie-Est regional final to select the candidate who will represent the group in the European final
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To participate in 3 Minute Thesis, participants must meet the following eligibility conditions :
- Be able to express yourself in English
- Be registered for a doctorate in 2024-2025 in one of the universities within the scope of the LR Doctoral College (IMT des Mines d’Alès, the University of Nîmes, the University of Perpignan Via Domitia, the Paul Valéry University) or in one of the Doctoral Schools of the Doctoral College of the University of Montpellier.
- Have completed their 1st year of research and doctoral training
- Be able to present an advanced and sufficiently clear research plan
- Having informed their thesis director and/or funders and their unit director of their participation in the competition
- Accept and authorize the use and distribution of videos and photos relating to the competition, particularly on social networks
- Take note of the defined calendar (date of selections, dates of training, dates of the regional final, date of the international final)
Registration
Doctoral students, whether attached to the Doctoral College of the University of Montpellier or the Languedoc-Roussillon Doctoral College, wishing to participate in 3 Minutes Thesis must:
- register via the ADUM platform between 4th November 2024 and 12th January 2025
- then send the registration form signed by the thesis director and the candidate by email to collegedoctoral@unimes.fr.
